Greyhound Pets of America-Michigan Chapter

 

This agreement made by and between Greyhound Pets of America-Michigan Chapter (hereinafter referred to as GPA-MI) and the following foster person:

  1. GPA-MI maintains ownership of any and all greyhounds placed as GPA-MI foster dogs until each greyhound has been formerly adopted and GPA-MI has received a signed adoption agreement or transfer form and adoption fee pertaining to each greyhound.

 

  1. GPA-MI will provide the foster home a crate if required.

 

  1. Medical care of GPA-MI foster greyhounds must be authorized by a GPA-MI Representative. GPA-MI assumes no responsibility nor will GPA-MI reimburse expenses for medical care without prior authorization. However, in an emergency when seeking a director’s approval may jeopardize the greyhound’s life, the foster person should seek immediate veterinary care. With proper documentation, the foster person will be reimbursed for same. Every attempt should be made to use a GPA-MI participating veterinarian for medical attention.

 

  1. Medical care required for a GPA-MI foster greyhound due to neglect or disregard of GPA-MI policy regarding the care of the foster greyhound shall be the responsibility of the foster person. Neglect is defined as:
    1. Pet care that contradicts standards according to GPA-MI guidelines. Included but not limited to any greyhound left unattended, unsupervised, and not properly crated while the foster person is not available to personally supervise the greyhound’s actions (i.e. while away from the home);
    2. Allowing the greyhound access to hazardous and/or harmful materials;
    3. Leaving the greyhound out-of-doors while the foster person is not on the premises;
    4. Or to in any way care for the greyhound in a manner deemed neglectful by either state or local ordinances and regulations.

 

  1. If the foster home cannot hold the greyhound until placement, the GPA-MI Foster Coordinator shall be contacted and the dog will be placed into another foster home.

 

  1. GPA-MI is responsible for the adoption and placement of all GPA-MI greyhounds. While the input and judgment of the foster person is invaluable to the placement of the greyhound, the decisions concerning the permanent placement shall be at the discretion of the Placement Representative and/or the GPA-MI directors.

 

  1. GPA-MI assumes no responsibility or liability for damages incurred, including but not limited to personal liability or damages to personal property including, but not limited to, home furnishings damaged by a GPA-MI foster greyhound. The foster home shall have homeowner or renters insurance which shall include personal liability insurance to cover same.

 

  1. The foster home and property shall be inspected by a representative of GPA-MI prior to acceptance into the GPA-MI foster program and yearly thereafter. A record of inspection shall be kept on file by GPA-MI.

 

  1. No verbal agreements between the foster home and GPA-MI shall be binding.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall be kept as an indoor family pet.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall be crated in a suitable crate large enough as to not restrict movement during those periods when the foster person is not able to supervise the actions and movements of the foster greyhound.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall be fed twice daily and in amounts to maintain proper body weight. The foster greyhound shall have access to fresh water at all times.  GPA-MI is not responsible for providing food for the foster greyhound.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall be exercised on lead or exercised in a completely secure fenced area at all times. At no time will the foster greyhound be allowed off lead when outside a completely fenced area.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall receive care and personal attention to develop social skills as deemed necessary for a pet and companion animal.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall receive training pertinent to developing good house manners and housebreaking.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall be supervised while interacting with any and all other animals.  Always have a muzzle on the greyhound when introducing to cats or other pets.  Be sure representative has discussed these introductions!

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall be supervised while interacting with any and all children.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall always wear a safety collar with identification tags as provided by GPA-MI.

 

  1. The foster person shall make the greyhound available to attend scheduled GPA activities which will expose the greyhound to potential adopters.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall be kept in a safe and clean environment and protected from conditions, experiences, and substances unsafe for any pet.

 

  1. The foster greyhound shall not reside in a location other than that which is stated on this agreement.

 

  1. The foster person shall immediately notify GPA-MI of any heath or behavior concern pertinent to the foster greyhound.

 

  1. The foster person shall immediately notify GPA-MI should the foster greyhound become lost or stolen.

 

  1. The foster person may not transfer the greyhound to any other person without the express written consent from a GPA-MI Director.
