DiDi's big smile!

DiDi
1994--2006

DiDi was a headstrong girl with a mind of her own who was loved dearly by her family. D formed a special bond with her Mom the first day she came to live with us. She was the Queen of the food dishes at feeding time and she made sure she tested all of the food not just her's. D expressed her unhappiness with new foster dogs by giving her Mom a dirty stare and turning her back to her. But she was always the first to play in the yard with them if nobody was watching! D loved to go for her daily walks and rides in the car.
She was a fun expressive and spirited girl who touched our hearts and who added so much to our home. Her personality was one of a kind and was so much fun to have around.
We miss you and love you Momma's Girl.

  TOPPER
1992-2006
We adopted Topper over 7 years ago and he was over 14 years old. He has been a wonderful dog to our family.

Ever since he was attacked 2 years ago by another dog, he  went down hill. He  lost every bit of his body fat and couldn't even shake his body off without falling over. He also had a heart murmur that may have lead to infection, because he was coughing a lot.

Topper won severally costume contests and has lots of plaques in his name. He will be missed!

TC (Totally Cool) and that you were. TC decided to adopt Bob and I last year and we are thankful for the 366 days that we had with him. Even though he was 13 1/2 years old we called him our "puppy boy". There wasn't a trash can or a piece of food on the counter that he didn't like. We were lucky enough to be able to travel with him to Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri and Kansas and he made an impression on everyone he met. He had been returned and in a few different foster homes before he came to us. We are just sorry that he did not "find" us sooner. Our lives were enriched because he chose to be a part of our family. Thanks TC for everything-you taught us so much. You were amazing!!

Jet

Jet was brought to God's gates and passed over Rainbow Bridge to green fields forever Saturday late morning. He is now getting his butt rubs and butt dancing in sunny, pain free days with others in the greyhound family. As you know all to well it is sad and emotional and most people just don't understand the special bond with a greyhound once rescued. We miss him terribly and Jetta is at a loss and a little uneasy yet. John is off work all this week so it is fortunate that he will be able to spend extra time with her over the next few days. And, I plan to take her to see her grandma (my Mom) tonight at the nursing home, so that should help to cheer her up too.

We were blessed to have been given the opportunity to bring Easy Jet into our family and to extend his happy tail life for a few more years than was originally thought before we took him from that Indiana foster home that wanted to end his life back many years ago. At 13 he gave many a persons a big ol' smile!

Thank you for your thoughts. Deb/John Herring

Griffin

“Ill Do It Right” was his racing name, and did he live up to it. He loved everything and everyone. Everywhere he went, people adored him. He had the type of personality you just wish everyone had (human and animal alike). From the day he stepped off the trailer his tail started wagging and in the 15 months he was with us, I don’t think it ever stopped. We only got to be touched by him for a short time, but the happiness and the love that he brought to us will last a lifetime.

I never thought about fostering, let alone adopting a greyhound. I heard the stories about what happens to them after they are retired from racing, but just always thought, “What can I do?” For anyone who is reading this, and may be thinking about fostering or adopting one of these precious greyhounds, let me tell you this. It’s not so much what you can do for them, its more about what they can do for you. When they are rescued from the track and make the trip north, they hop of the trailer and look at you with those big brown eyes, and before you know it you feel him/her start to lean into you. I think the love of a greyhound is truly unconditional love, they want nothing more from you than a kind word, a loving touch, and a gentle reassurance that they are safe. Although some may take a while to relax and feel secure, once they do , you will realize any doubt s you may have had has disappeared. They are truly amazing animals, and I thank God for the time we had with Griffin, and for all the friends we’ve made because of him.

He was our first foster, our first “kid.“ Although there have been other fosters, and will be another adoption, there will only ever be one “Griffin.”

He will always remain number one in our hearts. Its only been a few days since his passing, yet it feels like an eternity. To Griffin, we miss you, along with your little brother. He watched over you in your passing moments. We take solace in the fact that we know we’ll all see you again someday. I know you’ll coming running up to us with your tail going full speed, saying “Oh golly momma” in your billy bob twang. We had some really good times with you Griffo.

We love you dearly, and you’ll always remain in our hearts.

In loving memory, Jackie, Nicholle and Mars.

Topaz

October 15, 1999 to May 5, 2005
Owners: Ronda, Roger and Travis Herbert

Topaz's big brown eyes and toothy grin always greeted Ronda when she came home. Topaz was a true treasure, and such a great sport when being dressed up with silly hats and glasses. He will always have a place in Ronda and Roger's hearts, and all the people who knew him. He was nicknamed "Topey-Do" and "Toto" and was a fun loving dog. He will be greatly missed.

"CBAR TANKER"
1994-2004

A Noble gentleman and a friend to the end. Tanker, the Herbert's very first greyhound, was quite shy and timid when he first arrived. He quickly won their hearts over and became the inspiration for Ronda and Roger's involvement in greyhound rescue.
